Anisette Cookies

My Nonna didn’t just pass along her love of baking to my aunts, even my Zio Mico developed a love of baking. He is known for many talents, but Anisette cookies are one of his specialties.  Some might say that he makes the best anisette cookies in Northern Ontario. My Nonna might say that he had a great teacher! He is frequently called upon to make these gems for bridal showers, weddings or family celebrations. He may have his own secret ingredients  or tricks of the trade, but here is our family’s go-to recipe. These are perfect to have make fresh if company is staying over, or great to stock up in the freezer.

6 eggs beaten

1 ½ cups of sugar

1 cup of oil

1 tsp of baking powder

2 tsp of annissette

2 ½  cups of flour

Pinch of salt

  • Mix the eggs, oil and sugar together with egg beater
  • Add flour, salt and baking powder
  • Add annisette
  • Grease the pan
  • Dust with flour and shake off excess flour
  • Place dough in cookie sheet and even out with spoon, tap the cooking sheet
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes
  • Cut into 2-3 inch cookies
